HTC U12 Revealed With 'Bezel-Less' 18:9 Display, Gigabit LTE Technology , II HTC U12 aka HTC with 5G support Imagine shown off at a tech event , II HTC U12 with 5G support reportedly showcased in Taiwan

This is the first time we’re learning about the idea but the HTC U12 aka HTC Imagine was shown off at a recent event in Taiwan. We already know there won’t be a flagship to be introduced at the MWC 2018 but phones are still being developed. We’re looking at a Q2 reveal or perhaps even just after the tech event in Barcelona. There won’t be a major change yet even if the HTC employees were already formally welcomed to Google’s hardware group.
HTC unveiled a new phone that we’re assuming is the HTC U12 that was also leaked before. Some photos were published but thanks to Evan Blass for the clearer images. Details are scarce and even the company covered the top and bottom edges of the phone.
We’re expecting this will have an almost bezel-less 18:9 display on probably a 6-inch screen. Since the phone was displayed at the Taiwan 5G Industry Alliance, it is safe to say HTC is pushing for the 5G technology in the near future. At the moment, the mystery phone can deliver an almost 1 Gbps download speed (809.58 Mbps). It could be because of the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor that features the new Qualcomm X20 LTE modem.
Aside from the HTC U12, HTC also showcased the HTC Vive PRO in 2018 and the HTC Vive Focus at the same event.

HTC U12 HTC U12 with 5G has been spotted in Taiwan.
HTC U12, the company’s upcoming flagship has been spotted in Taiwan at a 5G industry event, according to reports. Images of the supposed HTC U12 smartphone with ultra-thin bezels on the display were also posted on Twitter. Evan Blass, who runs evleaks on Twitter, had posted in response to a tweet by iamaniff that the device in the picture was the HTC Imagine, which is the codename for the HTC U12.
Twitter user iamaniff had written on the social networking site, “HTC today (1/29) participated in the inaugural meeting of ‘Taiwan 5G Industry Alliance – Chunghwa Telecom Pilot Team,’ featuring Vive PRO, Vive Focus, unlisted VR devices from Taiwan and HTC phones that have not been released to the public,” and posted pictures of HTC phones with internet speed test results displayed on them. According to Blass, this “lightly obfuscated handset on display at a 5G industry event is none other than HTC Imagine, aka ‘U12.'”
Another report in Taiwan-based Sogi website said this particular mobile can deliver download speeds of 809.58 Mbps, which is close to 1Gbps. The report also said the phone will have the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, which is the 845 series and a 6-inch display with 18: 9 ratio. HTC staff at the event also said the phone has not yet launched and that’s the reason why the model number of the device was not revealed.
The HTC U12, HTC’s next flagship Android phone, may have already made its first public appearance in Taiwan. There’s no word yet on when HTC plans on launching the HTC U12, but some of its specs have already been revealed.
The HTC U12 comes with an 18:9 display and the handset has very thin bezels like the U11+, but its screen is slightly more curved to the sides. Information on the screen size wasn’t provided by HTC, but it looks like the device has a 6-inch display. If that’s truly the case, then the handset will have the same screen size as the U11 Plus, as pointed out by Android Authority.
The HTC U12 was shown off at a 5G event in Taiwan, but the Android phone itself doesn’t feature 5G technology. Instead, the phone comes with gigabit LTE that includes Licensed Assisted Access (LAA), according to raajsajaniya.com. LAA combined LTE with the unlicensed 5GHz Wi-Fi band for additional bandwidth. During HTC’s demo, the device was able to reach a download speed of 809 Mbps.
Since the U12 is capable of such network speeds, it’s being speculated that the device is being powered by a new chipset. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor comes with the Qualcomm X20 LTE modem, which is capable of download speeds of up to 1.2 Gbps. In theory, the U12 could reach gigabit speeds like the original U11.
GSM Arena claims that the HTC U12 has a 6-inch 1,440 x 2,880 Super LCD6 display, but that hasn’t been confirmed by HTC yet. Other rumored specs for the phone include the Snapdragon 846 processor with 6GB of RAM. Based on HTC’s most recent Android phones, the U12 is also expected to be IP68 water- and dust-resistant, will have dual stereo speakers, a large battery and a microSD card slot for expandable storage.
HTC’s hasn’t given an official statement on the HTC U12 and there’s currently no information on when exactly this phone will be released. Notorious leaker Evan Blass (@evleaks) did say that this handset will be HTC’s next flagship Android phone.
Speaking of Blass, the leaker also reported that HTC is already working on an entry-level Android phone. The device is codenamed as the HTC “Breeze” and that it will have 5.5-inch display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The HTC Breeze is said to arrive with a MediaTek processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, 13MP camera on the back, 5MP camera up front and a 2,730mAh battery. Digital Trends speculates that this handset may go on sale with a sub-$200 price tag.
The HTC U12 has already made its public appearance during a 5G event in Taiwan.
