Reliance Jio has launched the second version of the JioPhone during its Annual General Meeting in Mumbai. The new JioPhone 2 builds on the first generation of the feature phone.

Board of Directors of Reliance Jio Infocomm and Reliance Retail, Akash Ambani and Isha Ambani while addressing shareholders at the 41^st annual general meeting of Reliance Industries on Thursday announced the launchof the new JioPhone 2.
The phone, priced Rs 2,999, is slated to be released on August 15 and will contain ‘advanced features’ compared to its predecessor, the JioPhone.

The JioPhone 2 will have a 512 MB RAM and 4 GB of storage space with expandable storage support of 128 GB. The phone will run on KaiOS and it will carry a battery of 2000 mAH. The phone will have a 2 MP camera on the back and a VGA camera on the front for selfies. The new phone supports dual SIMs and has 4G and VoLTE support.

How to get the JioPhone 2

—You can order the phones via either My Jio app or the official Jio website (www.jio.com) at a price of Rs 2,999.
You can also register for Jio GigaFiber from August 15. JioGigaFiber, a fixed-line broadband service is currently in beta testing phase and will be launched simultaneously in 1100 cities across the country.
Jio had begun rolling out beta trials of the Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) services at select locations in six cities — Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Ahmedabad, Jamnagar, Surat and Vadodara in May 2017.
The FTTH services are expected to offer download speeds of at least 100 Mbps at affordable rates.

Features
The JioPhone 2 comes with a 4-way Nav key. In terms of connectivity the device will feature LTE Band 3,3,40, 2G Band- 900/1800 4G. The device is capable of conducting LTE Cat4. The JioPhone 2 is also capable of using VoLTE and VoWiFi for calling over the internet.
The phone can accommodate dual SIMs (nano). The screen is 2.4-inch QVGA display. The device comes with 512MB RAM and 4GB of internal storage. A 2000mAh battery powers the new JioPhone 2. The phone can also house an SD card up with memory up to 128GB.
For optics, JioPhone 2 will come with a 2 Megapixel primary camera and a VGA camera on the front panel. The phone's uses KaiOS as the operating system. The feature phone will also be capable of functionalities of FM, Wi-Fi, GPS and even NFC.

Monsoon Hungama Offer

Buyers still interested in buying the older JioPhone can use Reliance Jio's new Monsoon Hungama Offer. Under this offer, existing feature phone users can exchange their old phone with a JioPhone at a price of Rs 501. The offer will go live from July 21. Despite the company's claim of an effective price of Rs 0, there was an entry price of Rs 1,500. With the new offer in place, the user can get a JioPhone by paying Rs 501 and exchanging their older feature phone.

 Reliance Jioon Thursday announced the launch of JioPhone 2 at an introductory price of Rs 2999 which will be available from August 15. The announcement was made by Isha Ambani while addressing RIL's 41st AGM. The new JioPhone 2 will also feature Whatsapp, Facebook and and YouTube.

The company also introduced another offer to feature phone users where starting July 21, users can exchange their existing feature phone for a brand new JioPhone for Rs 501. “We have thus reduced the effective entry cost of the JioPhone from Rs 1500 to as low as Rs 501,” said Ambani.

The phone will feature horizontal screen display and full keypad and will be powered by KaiOS. The company recently received an investment of over $22 million by Google. Before that, RIL had acquired a stake of 16% in the company for over $7 million in March this year.

Isha, along with brother Akash and technology head Kiran Thomas, while announcing the launch, said that JioPhone was generating over 20 crore voice commands every month. They also announced that voice commands would be available for Facebook, Youtube and Whatsapp on the new JioPhone 2.

While addressing the AGM, Mukesh Ambani said, "We have more than 25 million JioPhone users in India. We are now taking the JioPhone to the next level, with added capabilities and functionalities."

JioPhone recently became the best-selling feature phone model in the world with 15% in the first quarter of 2018, driving the global feature phone market, which grew 38% annually during the quarter, according to Counterpoint Research. HMD Global (Nokia) was the second largest vendor with 14% share, followed by iTel (13%), Samsung (6%) and Tecno (6%).

Reliance Jio 4G feature phones quickly made it to the top spot in the Indian feature phone market, underlining the potential of 4G feature phones. It is working with KaiOS to bring value to its customers.
