Luxury plug-in hybrid electric vehicles manufacturer Fisker is set to unveil the Fisker EMotion at CES 2018. With the EMotion, Fisker is promising a car that can give 200 km of range with just 9 minutes of charging. Fisker has claimed that the car's battery has the world's highest energy density, nearly 2.5 times more than that of a lithium-ion battery.

In an interview with Autocar Henrik Fisker, founder of Fisker, said “It used to be about the efficiency of the gasoline engine,” said Fisker. “Now, it’s all about who breaks the code and smashes the barriers to future battery technologies that will enable mass market electrification.” Henrik Fisker is also known to have designed the Aston Martin DB9 and BMW Z8.
The car is expected to come out in 2019 and should have a 400-mile (around 640 km) range and should be priced at $129,900, which puts it in direct competition with Tesla's Model X sedan, whose top model has the same price tag. While the Model X is not a hybrid variety, it's range on a single charge can touch up to 295 miles (around 475 km) with a top speed of 130 mph (around 209 kph), as compared to the 161 mph (around 260 kph) on the EMotion.

The car employs Lidar technology to enable autonomous driving by 3D mapping and identifying objects around it. Fisker EMotion will be manufactured by VLF while the software for autonomous driving will be supplied by external companies, according to the report. However, the truly mind-boggling news is that Fisker has reportedly filed patent applications on its battery technology and by 2023 it could have a prototype ready which has a 500-mile range and ONE minute charge time. Yeah, that's right. Just ONE minute to charge the entire battery and travel 500-miles. Elon Musk are you seeing this?

The report says that Fisker is also following along the lines of the Tesla Model 3 and plans to introduce a lower-cost and mass-produced model. However, unlike Tesla, they will not manufacture the car in-house but will hire an established car maker to construct the vehicle.

Henrik Fisker runs a new company called Fisker Inc., founded after Fisker Automotive crumbled and the Karma electric sedan went to China to be resurrected as the Revero made by a company called Karma. Any new company needs a new product, and Fisker has it: the EMotion electric sedan, which will bring its 400-mile-plus range, four butterfly doors, and a tiny example of its "revolutionary" battery to next week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

We have about enough specs on the EMotion to fill a Post-It note, but we're told that the range comes courtesy of a whopping 143-kWh lithium-ion battery that can be re-juiced with a 125-mile range in nine minutes. Fisker Inc. had formed a joint venture with Nanotech to produce graphene batteries, but the JV fell apart. Fisker says the replacement li-ion batteries sourced from LG Chem employ proprietary module packaging to create "probably... the most energy dense battery pack in the world."

The company won't be ready to divulge all of its battery and cooling secrets at CES, however, reps do plan to bring a cellphone-sized version to demonstrate the possibilities. Other innovations in development are an automated, hands-free charging connector.

As for those doors, they take us back to the Savage Rivale Landyacht GTS, being butterfly portals all around, rear-hinged for the rear set. Not sure how practical they'll be, but they make the all-wheel drive EMotion look like nothing else - something the EMotion already didn't need to worry about. Fisker says the sedan's interior will be more spacious those of its competitors, with rear legroom exceeding that of "many full-size luxury sedans." Every seat gets viewing screens, and top speed rings in at 161 miles per hour.

Fisker expects production to begin in 2019 somewhere in the US, and set the base price at $129,000. The order books are open now, with a $2,000 deposit securing your reservation.
