The new Mercedes X-Class truck is finally real and, today, Mercedes unveiled some classy ways for you to use it, like when you’re camping in the Carpathian Mountains.

.

The camper concepts, made the third-party companies Tischer and VanEssa will be shown off next week at a trade show in Stuttgart, Germany. Both were designed specifically for the X-Class. The one made by Tischer, pictured above, is a little bulky by my reckoning, but the kit designed by VanEssa seems pretty slick:
“From the Scottish Highlands to remote passes through Romania’s Carpathian Mountains to sunrises at the Plage Blanche in Morocco: camping has become an adventure and a chance to enjoy nature to the fullest,” a press release from Mercedes says, and they’re not wrong.
The VanEssa kit includes cold storage, in addition to everything you’d need to cook while in the great outdoors; the lid can even prop itself at a 45-degree angle for easier access to the X-Class’s bed.
Let’s go back to the Tischer, though, for a moment, which looks better from a distance. Headroom inside is a comfortable two meters, or over six feet, which is good for tall people like me. It also has a shower, stove, and enough space for two beds.
Mercedes also released photos of their Marco Polo line of vans also designed for glampy travel. It comes with a fancy sound system, among other things:
What is particularly interesting for campers: the Jehnert sound system offers a choice of two sound set-ups. With the “Driving” set-up, the music is specifically aimed in the direction of the driver and front passenger; with the “Living” set-up, the sound is additionally extended to the rear of the vehicle.

The X-Class is available in Europe now, and might enter other markets in the future, though Mercedes has said that it probably won’t be coming to America, meaning that if you want to truly camp in style you’ll have to cross the Atlantic.

It sure seems like Europe gets a lot of cool camping vehicles. Last year we saw VW show off the ultimate evolution of a camper van, and this year, Mercedes is getting in on the camping game with a pair of X-Class pickup truck concepts, done up for the Caravan, Motor, Touristik (CMT) show in Stuttgart. One has a fairly conventional camper setup, while the other has a stylish cooking setup that would be a perfect complement to camping in tents.

The first concept with the full camper comes from a company called Tischer. It's a fairly standard truck bed-mounted drop-in camper box. It features seating for up to three people, a small kitchen with three-burner gas stove, sleeping accomodations, and even bathroom equipment. The bathroom consists of a hideaway sink and toilet and a space for showering.

The other concept has less capability, but a much more stylish execution. It comes from VanEssa Mobilcamping, and it features a 551-pound slide-out kitchen system. It has a cooler, sink and storage for all variety of cookware. It fits completely within the truck bed and slides out past the tailgate for use. It also fits below the classy teak wood bed cover. Fortunately, the kitchen unit doesn't take up the entire bed, either, so there's still space for various camping items.

As cool as these concepts are, don't expect them to come to America anytime soon, since Mercedes-Benz has no plans to bring the X-Class pickup to America. But we can still admire them from afar.
Mercedes G-class leaks inside and out
A bunch of images have been leaked that show the new 2019 Mercedes G class SUV. The images give a good overview of what the vehicle will look like on the outside and inside. The changes to the outside of the G class are minimal. That was to be expected with the G famously being mostly unchanged since debut in 1979.
Inside the G class is all about luxury and images of multiple interior options are offered up. Some of the images are a bit grainy, but they are allegedly official Mercedes press images of the vehicle. For now, most details on the ride are unknown.
What is known is that the 2019 flavor won’t be any wider than the outgoing model. Despite being the same width, the 2019 G has a roomier cabin thanks to smarter packaging. The interior will also get more tech, something that many fans have wanted.
The vehicle still rides on a ladder-type frame and has the off-road skills you expect. The diff locks have three ranges and the vehicle has a low range for crawling over rough terrain. Word is that new engines will be offered.
Details on the vehicle and engine options are expected at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Pricing details should be offered there as well, as always this will be a premium vehicle carrying a price north of $100,000.
