LG pre-announces new Gram laptops ahead of CES II LG Claims New Gram Laptops Will Last All Day II LG refreshes Gram lineup with new processors, longer battery life
Not to be outdone by Samsung and its unveiling of the Notebook 9 (2018) earlier today, LG has decided to do what it does best: pre-announce a product. This time around it's a new generation of Gram laptops, that will be fully unveiled at CES in Las Vegas in early January.
The Gram series debuted in 2014, and the 2018 iteration features a 72Wh battery that delivers 19 to 22.5 hours of use depending on the screen size you pick (assessment based on 2014 MobileMark criteria).
You will be able to buy a Gram next year with a choice of 13.3", 14", and 15.6" display. In that order, they will weigh 965g, 995g, and 1.095kg, respectively. Compact design and slim bezels mean the 14" Gram has the size of a conventional 13" laptop.

The devices will be powered by 8th generation Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, paired with SSD storage and even a second SSD drive slot if you want to add more. The boot time should be under 10 seconds.
The new Grams are made out of a Nano Carbon Magnesium full metal alloy, and comply with the MIL-STD-810G standard for resistance to impact, pressure, and temperature. Optionally, you can get a touchscreen, fingerprint reader, and Thunderbolt 3 port.
The latest Gram laptops will become available in the US next month, with other markets to follow at some later point.
LG is refreshing its Gram lineup for 2018, bringing a processor bump and more.
The Korean tech giant took the wraps off of the latest entries in its Gram line today, revealing a trio of laptops that we'll likely see much more of at CES 2018 in January. Like their predecessors, the new Gram models put the focus on being exceptionally lightweight, but they're also seeing a bump in hardware specs as well.
The models come in 13.3-inch, 14-inch, and 15.6-inch options, weighing in at 2.12 pounds, 2.19 pounds, and 2.41 pounds. In terms of hardware specs, LG has outfitted its latest Grams with Intel's latest eighth-generation Core i7 and i5 processors, making the all quad-core machines. That should also bring a bump to battery efficiency, and LG is claiming "full day" battery life from the included 75Wh battery. Estimates range from 22.5 hours on the 13.3-inch model to 21.5 hours on the 14-inch model and 19 hours on the largest 15.6-inch model, according to LG. Manufacturer estimates are usually on the optimistic side of things, however, so we'll have to wait to see if those number pan out.

LG also says it has built the new Gram models with carbon magnesium alloy bodies meant to stand up to MIL-ST 810G durability tests for impact, pressure, and temperature. The body designs have also allowed LG to squeeze the 14-inch model into a body the size of a typical 13-inch laptop, the company says.
Other bits include a touch screen display, fingerprint reader, and Thunderbolt 3 support.
Pricing data isn't available just yet, but LG says to expect the new 2018 Gram models to be available in the U.S. in January. We also expect to see more of the slim laptops at CES 2018, which kicks off on January 9.
