The year 2017 has been a rollercoaster ride of sorts when it comes to the smartphone industry. Nokia made a comeback, the LG G6(review)  made 18:9 displaysmainstream, mobile phones continued to become more affordable, along with many more. That makes us wonder if 2018 can possibly be even more exciting. Here we have listed the top smartphones which are expected to be launched in India in January.

We have seen 2017 being all about bezel-less displays and dual cameras with major brands as well as budget players stepping up to the pedestal. Now, Hong Kong-based iVOOMi is also all set to join the bezel-free bandwagon as it gears up to launch the i1 and i1S in January. As per our exclusive report, these smartphones will come equipped with 5.45-inch bezel-less displays bearing an aspect ratio of 18:9 and 2.5D curved glass on top. They will also feature dual camera setups on the rear panel comprising 13-megapixel + 2-megapixel. The handsets run Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. While no other information is available regarding these devices, we do know that i1 and iS are the same devices with different RAM and storage capacities. iVOOMi is likely to price them between Rs 6,999 and Rs 9,999, making them amongthe most affordablephones with 18:9 displays and dual cameras.

Honors latest View10(first impressions) will go on sale in India starting January 8th and has already gone up for pre-registrations on Amazon India starting December 28th. Launched globally at a London Event, the View 10 comes with a 5.99-inch, 18:9 display with a resolution of 2,160 x 1,080 pixels. The performance of the handset is being driven by the top-tier Kirin 970 SoC that has been mated to 6GB of RAM. The highlight of thephone has to be the dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU), which enables Artificial Intelligence across the board on the hardware level. There is 16-megapixel + 20-megapixelmodule on the rear panelwith dual tone LED flash. For selfies and video calls, you get a 13-megapixel snapper. Out of the box, it runs Android Oreo and is powered by a 3,750mAh battery.

Xiaomi Redmi 5 / Redmi 5 Plus

Xiaomi recently launched Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphones in China and both these handsets are expected to land in India in January. The Redmi 5 comes with a 5.7-inch display bearing HD+ resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. The performance is driven by Snapdragon 450 processor and the device will be offered in two variants 2GB + 16GB and 3GB + 32GB. In the imaging department, there is a 12-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel selfie camera. It boots MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat out of the box and is fuelled by a 3,300mAh battery. The Redmi 5 Plus, on the other hand, flaunts a bigger 5.99-inch display, Snapdragon 625 SoC, 3GB + 32GB and 4GB + 64GB configurations and bigger 4,000mAh battery. The software and camera setup has been retained from the smaller sibling.

Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) / Galaxy A8+ (2018)

TheSamsung Galaxy A8 and A8+ 2018 with 18:5:9 Super AMOLED displays and glass sandwich designs were made official recently and are slated to go on sale starting January 2018. While both smartphones have bezel-less form factor with full HD+ display, A8 (2018) has a 5.6-inch display while theGalaxy A8+ (2018) features a 6-inch screen. The new smartphones come powered byocta-core processors mated to 4GB of RAM, and the A8+ (2018) also gets an additional 6GB RAM variant. Samsung is offering thephones in 32GB and 64GB storage options. For imaging, they get dual 16-megapixel + 8-megapixel f/1.9 camera setup on the front, which is a first for the South Korean handset maker. The rear camera is a 16-megapixel unit with video digital image stabilisation and hyperlapse. Out of the box, both smartphones run Android 7.1.1 Nougat.The Galaxy A8 (2018) is powered by a 3,000mAh battery, whilethe Galaxy A8+ (2018) featuresa 3,500mAh unit.

Gionee is all set to launch its ambitious, quad-camera toting S11 smartphone in January as well. The Gionee S11 comes with a 5.99-inch, 18:9 FullView display with minimal bezels all around. The performance of thephone is driven by a MediaTek Helio P23 processor. The device comes in two variants 4GB + 64GB and 6GB + 64GB. It comes flaunting a dual-camera module on both front and rear panel with 16MP + 5MP at back and 16MP + 8MP on the front. The handsetboots Amigo OS 5.0 based on Android 7.1 Nougat. As for the power requirement, the device gets a 3,410mAh battery. The smartphone has already been launched in China and is selling for RMB 1,799 (~Rs 17,600).
