Airtel vs Reliance Jio , Airtel Rs 199 plan vs Jio Rs 198 plan: More data, free calls but which one is better know more.

After Reliance Jio cut its tariffs to take on its rival Bharti Airtel, shares of Indian telecom providers fell on Wednesday. Jio cut its tariff plans on Tuesday after Bharti Airtel revised its data plans earlier this week. Jio, the telecom arm of Reliance Industries Ltd, said on Tuesday the revision was “a response to Airtel’s tariff changes”, which would help it maintain “its price leadership”. Bharti Airtel revised its data plans earlier this week. Shares of Airtel declined as much as 6.22 percent to Rs 466.85 today on NSE, their lowest since October 18, 2017 at the time of reporting. Idea Cellular Ltd dropped over 5 percent to Rs 94.12, its lowest since December 18, 2017. Reliance Communications Ltd slipped as much as 1 percent to Rs 28.95.
Reliance Jio has decided to offer 500 MB extra data to its subscribers using 1GB and 1.5GB per day data packs with effect from January 26, according to company sources. Besides, the telco as part of its ‘Republic Day offer’ will double the validity of Rs 98 pack to 28 days from the current 14 days from January 26 onwards, they said. “Jio will always offer more value to its customers, and offer Rs 50 lower price than competition and 50 per cent more data on its plans. As part of Republic Day offer, all existing 1GB per day packs enhanced to 1.5 GB per day, 1.5 GB per day packs enhanced to 2 GB per day,” sources said. Bharti Airtel had recently introduced Rs 399 plan offering unlimited calls and 1GB 4G data daily with 84 days validity. With this new offer, Jio’s flagship Rs 399 plan will provide free voice, unlimited 4G data with 1.5 GB daily, unlimited SMS and premium subscription to Jio Apps for 84 days. The Rs 98 pack at present offers 2.1 GB data at 4G speed and thereafter speed drops to 64 kilobit per second with 14 days validity. According to Bharti Airtel MD and CEO, India & South Asia, Gopal Vittal, the battle among telecom operators is now for market share and the pressure on tariff will continue for sometime even though it is at a unsustainable level at present.
Plans, offers and then some more new plans, this has been the story of Jio Vs Airtel so far. The two telecom companies have left no stone unturned to disrupt the telecom sector and most of all to beat each other in the race of providing cheapest calls and data plans.
All the telecom companies compete with each other and the war is not just between Jio and Airtel. However, if looked closer you see that Airtel has an answer to almost every plan that Jio launches or Jio sooner or later pushes out a plan at a similar price point as that of Airtel. When Jio brought the 1GB daily data plan, Airtel was one of the first companies to match up to it with a similar plan and at the same price tag of Rs 399. The scenario is same even today. Airtel recently revised its Rs 199 plan to offer more data. Jio in no time made a similar revision to its plan in the name of Republic Day offer and announced o offer more data at a lesser price.
The two companies have launched several similar plans in the past. Here we talk about a 28 days' plan that looks complete as it includes both voice and data benefits in one recharge. Airtel has launched it at Rs 199 while Jio users get it at Rs 198. Jio plan is cheaper than Airtel's but this cannot be the only parameter to judge which one is better. To give a clear understanding of the plans and help you choose the better one, here's a quick rundown of these plans. Take a look:
Airtel Rs 199 plan: To take on Jio's cheap data rates, Airtel recently revamped it Rs 199 plan. Where the plan earlier offered just 1GB data per day, it now offers 1.4GB data per day. Rest of the benefit such as unlimited voice calls and 100 SMS per day remain same. The plan comes with 28 days validity. This becomes 39.2 GB data in total.

Jio Rs 198 plan: Jio on Tuesday announced the Republic Day offer under which it promises to offer more data to its users. The company earlier offered 1.5GB data per day. Under the new offer, it will now offer 2GB data per day for 28 days. It becomes 56GB data in total. The other benefits like free voice calls, 100 SMSes and access to Jio apps remain same. This plan goes live from January 26, 2018.
Which one is better?
The two plans compete with each other very closely. Both of them offer more or less similar benefits. However, Jio has an upper hand here considering its unlimited in terms of data also. In the case of Airtel, user will attract charges if the data limit is exhausted. Jio users do not have to worry about any such thing. They can continue using the data only at a reduced speed of 64Kbps.
Another important point to note here is that Jio is purely into 4G business while Airtel does not have 4G presence in all areas.
Here are other important and big plans that Jio and Airtel have launched recently:
Jio Rs 98 plan: Jio under the Republic Day offer has launched a Rs 98 plan. It is one of the cheapest voice calls announced currently. The plans offers free voice calls for along with 2GB data for 28 days. While the data may seem less but calls are going to be free for straight 28 days.
Jio Rs 349 plan- The company has reduced the price of its Rs 399 plan to Rs 349. The data limit has also been increased. It offers free voice calls and 1.5GB data per day for 70 days. In total it is 105GB data now.
Jio Rs 398 plan: Jio earlier offered 1.5GB data per day under this plan. It has now been raised to 2GB data per day. The company now offers 140GB data in total for a period of 70 days.
Jio Rs 498 planSame is with this plan also. The company has increased the data limit of this plan from 1.5GB to 2GB data per day. You now get 182GB data in total for a period of 91 days. This and above mentioned three plans will go live from January 26, 2018.
Airtel has also revised its plans to compete with Jio's competitive data rates. The company has increased the data benefits by almost 40 per cent for its three plans- Rs 199, Rs 448 and Rs 509. We have already discussed the Rs 199 plan, so here are the rest two plans explained.
Airtel Rs 448 planAirtel now offer 1.4 GB data per day instead of 1GB data under this pack. The validity period is of 82 days. The other benefits like free voice calls and 100 SMSes remain same.
Airtel Rs 509 planThis is a 90 days' plan. User will now get 1.4GB data per day. The plan in total offers 126GB data in total.
