OnePlus 5T Star Wars Edition Announced, To Go On Sale Dec. 15 I OnePlus celebrates ‘The Last Jedi’ with a limited edition Star Wars 5T I OnePlus 5T Star Wars Limited Edition announced, will go on sale from December 15

OnePlus has announced the OnePlus 5T Star Wars Limited Edition phone in India. The Chinese company said the phone, which retains all the specifications of the original phone, will be available starting December 15, and it coincides with the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi in India.

How the OnePlus 5T Star Wars Limited Edition is different

After launching just the black version of the OnePlus 5T, the company launched a lava red version of the phone in China last week. Now it has followed it up with a Star Wars Limited Edition phone.
When announcing the phone on Monday, the Chinese company stated that the Star Wars franchise had left many spellbound with its storytelling “from a galaxy far, far away, with the best in technology and strong engagement with their fan community.” This collaboration will help the OnePlus community “to thoroughly enjoy the legacy of both the brands.”
The OnePlus 5T Star Wars Limited Edition will have a white back and black front panel, which is somewhat reminiscent of the Nexus 5. However, the handset will christen the OnePlus badge with a fingerprint scanner and a Star Wars logo on the bottom of the backside panel. The volume button on the left and the power button on the right are painted black, but the alert slider is coated red.
On the specification front, it is the same as the original version launched in India just last month. The smartphone has 6.01-inch full optic AMOLED display with full-HD+ (1080 x 2160) resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone runs on the 2.5GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC. The handset comes with a rear-facing fingerprint scanner and a pre-installed Face Unlock feature.
As of now, it is not known if the OnePlus 5T Star Wars edition will come in a 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage variant, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage option, or both. The pricing of the handset is also not known. Moreover, there is no information on if this special edition will be exclusive to India or whether it will made available in other countries as well.

India is an important market for OnePlus

It is no surprise that the Chinese company has chosen India for the launch of the special edition phone. OnePlus, which has gained a humongous fan-base in just a few years of its arrival in India, continues to shatter its own records in the country. During the special one-hour preview sale on Amazon last month, the company said the OnePlus 5T sold out within five minutes.
At the time, Vikas Agarwal, general manager for OnePlus India said, “We have seen unprecedented customer response to the early access sales, in India as well as globally. Hundreds of fans stormed our ‘Experience Stores’ in Bengaluru and Delhi.”
The OnePlus 5T also helped the company break its own record for launch day sales.
The Chinese company, however, needs to gear up against Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone maker that has topped the sales of the OnePlus 5T in India. Xiaomi has also deposed Samsung in terms of market share in the top 50 cities in India for the third quarter of 2017, notes BusinessToday. The Redmi Note 4, the bestselling phone overall, accounted for 40% of Xiaomi’s total sales
Star Wars has had a strange smartphone history. The franchise was a no brainer for the Motorola Droid — Verizon actually had to license the name from Lucasfilm, so it follows that a few R2-D2 handsets followed over the years. More recently, Sharp, of all companies, scored the rights in time for Rogue One.
With The Last Jedi a mere weeks away, it’s OnePlus’s time to shine, with a Star Wars-branded edition of the 5T, first spotted by The Verge. The Shenzhen-based company is another odd choice — it’s hardly a household name, after all. And the OnePlus 5T Star Wars Limited Edition name isn’t just marketing — at the moment, at least, it appears the phone is only going to be available in India, starting a day before The Last Jedi hits theaters there on December 15.
The 5T is a great budget phone, as we mentioned in our recent review, and it looks like the company hasn’t altered the design language too much to Star Wars it up. There’s a small logo on the rear of the device, and a matching red side button.
The accompanying video, which debuted at Bengaluru Comic Con, highlights the color theme, which obviously takes a cue from Kylo Ren’s lightsaber — part a likely overall Dark Side focus for the new film. There appears to be limited edition wallpaper on the device — and if past Star Wars phones are any indication, there will be other exclusive content on the phone to further the theme. But even if it doesn’t, again, the 5T is a solid phone, Star Wars or no.
TheOnePlus 5T Star Wars Limited Edition will be launched at a OnePlus event in Mumbai on December 14 at an event that features all sorts of other Star Wars swag. We’ve reached out to OnePlus to see if the company has plans to launch the phone elsewhere — though the nature of the license on this one might mean no availability for users far, far away.
If you don’t want the OnePlus 5R Star Wars Limited Edition variant,  the company is also offering the standard model of the phone in a  midnight black finish. OnePlus 5T’s price in India is Rs 32,999 for the base 6GB RAM variant, while the top-end 8GB RAM model costs Rs 37,999. OnePlus 5T is Amazon exclusive in India, and will also be made available on the OnePlus’ official online store.
The premium smartphone sports a 6-inch FHD+ 18:9 display, a Snapdragon 835 processor, and either 6GB or 8GB RAM. It runs on OxygenOS, which is based on Android 7.1 Nougat. The phone is backed by a 3300mAh battery with Dash Charge. The main rear camera features a 16MP sensor while the secondary rear camera is using an 20MP sensor. The front camera has a 16MP resolution.
